It is interesting to watch something, or read something, or visit some place in life, that gives you perspective. You never would have thought of things in certain ways if you weren’t given some perspective. This isn’t Al Gore’s take or anything, I’m not trying to get you to change what kind of light bulb you use. If you have some time, watch Manufactured Landscapes, a documentary that gives some perspective on how we carve out of this planet we live in, but do it when you aren’t sleepy, because the music is very relaxing. It is on Netflix instant if you have Netflix. This photographer from Canada documents humanity’s impact on the earth. Here is his TED talk for the 2005 TED prize. And here is some youtube stuff with his work. The kids digging in the mud for metal from shipwrecks or the women climbing the mountains of motherboards from computer graveyards to pry off the tiny bits of metal is disturbing. I drive a car that needs that oil from those tanker shipwrecks, and I own/use many computers. Mental note, never move to China.
